At a vantage point close to the Knopfbach Viaduct the WEK's shedmaster, Hugo Flachlauf, who today enjoyes a day off, is greeting his driving colleagues as they pass by.

The small Preiser person was drilled right through from its right shoulder through the right leg, after having cut off his arm (drill Ø 0,8mm). The bore is lined with a small tube (brass tube or syringe needle).

The wire (Ø 0,3 mm) that leads through this tube right underneath the baseboard, carries the waving arm on its upper end. Under the baseboard a crank is fixed to it, which is actuated by a connecting rod from the motor (just like a windscreen wiper).

The track on the viaduct is equipped with a train detection circuit (Uhlenbrock), which switches the waving drive once a train enters the viaduct.
A capacitor holds up switching off for a few seconds after the engine left the controlled section. So the man waves until the last carriage has left the viaduct.
